July 29, 2024

Zarreen Alam-Cheetham from Exchange Chambers has successfully prosecuted a 32-year-old man for inflicting grievous bodily harm and affray.

After a 4-day trial at York Crown Court, the jury returned unanimous verdicts on both counts.

The victim, a personal trainer, suffered serious and life-threatening injuries after a fight occurred in York City Centre following a night out.

The victim was placed in an induced coma after sustaining a fractured skull and bleeding between the skull and brain. An emergency procedure was required to secure his airway and relieve the pressure on his brain. He has subsequently been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and was unable to be a witness in the trial due to his ongoing injuries.

The Defendant has since been remanded into custody and awaits sentence.

Zarreen has a busy criminal practice across the North and North Eastern Circuits. She acts for both the prosecution and defence.
