Tim Wilkinson secures £6 million settlement for man left with brain injury and hemiparesis

Tim Wilkinson from Exchange Chambers, led by Stephen Killalea KC, and instructed by Paul Breen at JMW Solicitors, Manchester, has secured a settlement of £6 million for a 20-year-old man left with a brain injury and hemiparesis.

The claimant was involved in a road traffic accident at the age of 4. Despite making a remarkable initial recovery, the nature and extent of the traumatic brain injury became more evident as the claimant grew up. The gap between himself and his peers became more and more pronounced throughout primary and secondary education.

The hemiparesis coupled with the fatigue often associated with a traumatic brain injury compounded the risk of falls such that single storey accommodation was required. The claimant had capacity but was vulnerable such that case management and support was required on a day-to-day basis.
