The Sentencing Act 2020

The Sentencing Act 2020 comes into force on the 1st December. It is a huge and massively ambitious attempt to codify Sentencing in the Criminal Courts of England and Wales.

We ask the questions:

• What is its purpose?
• Do we need it?
• Does anything change?
• What do we all need to know?

The seminar, will be split into 3 separate parts, where Chris Tehrani QC, Gareth Roberts and Sarah Griffin from our Criminal Department will discuss the following:

Part 1 – Introduction to the Act – its history and its scope.

Part 2 – A brief outline of the provisions contained in the Act.

Part 3 – A practical guide on how to use the Act in Court and some of the changes that it might bring about.
