​The most challenging areas of current legal practice are on confiscation, restraint and asset recovery. Not only is there a continuing expansion of legislation in this sector, leading to regular challenges in the appellate courts; it is also at the forefront of the agenda of successive governments as they try to combat financial crime and its impact on individuals and the economy generally.

In this talk, Ian Whitehurst will undertake a review and analysis of current issues, trends and developments in order to assist in the navigation of this area for practitioners and clients alike.

Ian will focus upon the following topics: cash forfeiture, restraint proceedings, production and disclosure orders, account freezing and forfeiture orders, third party interests in the confiscation process, property freezing orders and unexplained wealth orders.
