09:30 – 10:00 – Lawrence McDonald Business Tenancies and the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954

An understanding of the 1954 Act and its procedures is essential for any lawyer dealing with commercial property. As tenants review what commercial space they need and on what terms, landlords may be considering future development plans or other uses for their property. They will turn to the their lawyers for advice on: whether a lease has security of tenure, how a lease can be renewed and on what terms, whether a lease can be terminated and if so how, and on the procedural steps necessary to do all of this. Lawrence will outline the key requirements of the Act and the important points that lawyers advising in this area need to know about.

10:30 – 11:00: Brynmor AdamsRidley v Brown: Adverse Possession and Boundaries in the Supreme Court

Brynmor will speak about the forthcoming Supreme Court case of Ridley v Brown (in which he acts for the Respondent). He will consider the issue facing the Supreme Court and the ways in which the Court might resolve it. Bryn will also discuss what the decision will mean in practice for boundary disputes about registered land.
