09:30 – 10:00: William Hanbury – The Building Safety Act 2022 – an overview
Bill’s talk is designed to complement Bryn Adams’ talk, who will provide an overview on the Building Safety Act 2022, which received Royal assent in April 2022 and is coming into force in stages over the course of 2023 which fundamentally changes to building safety law following the Grenfell Fire by: greatly enlarging and bringing into force the original provisions of the Defective Premises Act 1972; extending the duties on those undertaking building and construction work and the enforcement powers of building control officers; enabling those affected to bring civil actions; and extends the limitation period for bringing these claims.
10:30 – 11:00: Brynmor Adams and Lisa Feng – Service Charges and the Building Safety Act 2022
Brynmor and Lisa will consider the impact of the protections for residential leaseholders contained in the Building Safety Act 2022. What protections do leaseholders have against service charge demands for remedial works? What alternative means for recovery are available to landlord and management companies? They will explain the provisions of the Act and explore the emerging case law on its interpretation.

Andrew provides a practical guide to applications under s. 84(1)(aa) of the LPA, considering recent Tribunal cases.

12:00 – 12:30: Lawrence McDonald – Property case law update
The courts have had a busy year with property cases including a number of Supreme Court decisions. Lawrence McDonald will provide an update on recent developments and bring you up to date with all the key property decisions.
