Accessing Family Therapy in Brain Injury Cases – the clinical and legal issues
13:00 – 14:00
Accredited by APIL Training
Family members are often very significantly impacted upon by a brain injury to their loved ones. Relatives are frequently overlooked, despite facing many obstacles accepting and adjusting to a new way of life. Although the costs are relatively small and the evidence about benefit is clear, even modest requests for funding of professional support are regularly turned down.
Dr Mark Holloway from Head First LLP will discuss what solicitors and other professionals need to know about the experience of families following head injury, the types and sources of support, the evidence about improving outcomes and the multidisciplinary role in helping affected families.
Matthew Stockwell, from our Personal Injury team, will give an overview of the legal framework and provide practical advice on securing access to funding for family support under the Rehabilitation Code, the Serious Injury Guide and through the litigation process.
