Sarah Barlow represents family of deceased at Article 2 Inquest
October 8, 2019
Sarah Barlow from Exchange Chambers, instructed by Karen Featherstone of Simpsons Solicitors, has represented the family of Birmingham man, Nigel Abbott, at an Article 2 inquest into his death.
Nigel Abbott was tragically killed by Kierran Fletcher, a young man in the grip of a severe psychotic episode who, at the time genuinely believed that he was God. Fletcher was subsequently found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity.
At the conclusion of the inquest, Coroner James Bennett heavily criticised both Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust and Birmingham City Council for a catalogue of failures that allowed Mr Fletcher to remain at liberty and untreated for a significant period of time and contributed to the death of Mr Abbott.
The Coroner reached a narrative conclusion at the inquest and said he would be sending a Prevention of Future Death report to the agencies involved, as well as the Secretary of State for Health.
