Richard Littler KC secures murder and manslaughter acquittal

August 12, 2024

Richard Littler KC from Exchange Chambers has secured the acquittal of his client on murder and manslaughter charges.

Sadiq Al-Lami was brutally murdered in the street following a high-speed pursuit between two cars on Kingsway in East Didsbury earlier this year. He was stabbed 11 times at a set of traffic lights.

Following a five-week trial at Minshull Street Crown Court, Sultan Bakr, 22, Sikander Babar, 24, his brother, Abdul Babar, 19, were all found guilty of murder. Jurors deliberated for just five hours. Yousaf Ahmed, 24, represented by Richard Littler KC was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter.

During the course of the trial, Richard Littler KC was made aware of threats of violence made against him by that one of the defendants (who was subsequently convicted) in the case.  Threats against legal professionals have no place in our society.  Barristers should be able to carry out their work safely, in order to contribute to the effective functioning of the justice system.  Everyone at Exchange Chambers pays tribute to Richard’s professionalism in carrying out his duties to the court and to his client in the face of such unacceptable actions.

Richard Littler KC was instructed by Andrea Wilson at Potter Derby Solicitors.

The case has attracted widespread media coverage:
