Rachel Coyle’s new book – ‘‘A Practical Guide to the Law on Preservation of Common Land and Village Greens’

February 3, 2025

Rachel Coyle from Exchange Chambers has released her third book – ‘A Practical Guide to the Law on Preservation of Common Land and Village Greens’.  A ‘dummies guide’ to common land and village greens – a short, accessible, dip in and out book to steer you in the right direction.

Published by Law Brief Publishing, it is a user-friendly guide for those who want to know where to start when understanding what a commons or village greens is, and what to do to preserve it. It is intended to help not merely lawyers but planners, developers and members of local communities.  The book also includes a chapter (What is a Village Green?) by Penny Emmott from Exchange Chambers.

Commenting on the book, Rachel said:

“The differing statutory mechanisms can be daunting, as can knowing where to look to know if there is a commons or village green at all in respect of a parcel of land. In this book, readers will become familiar with some of the pieces of evidence and information they might need to locate or consult to determine if there is a commons or village green and/or how to dispose of it or register it. The book addresses why there are different statutory mechanisms and to which areas they apply.”
