Employment
Robert has significant experience of employment law. He has acted for claimants in the full range of employment cases including:
- Redundancy
- Unfair dismissal (including constructive)
- Discrimination (all forms – age, sexual, disability)
- Whistleblowing
- Wrongful dismissal and contractual claims
- TUPE
Over recent years Robert has acted regularly across the country for the Britannia Hotel Group, which includes circa 50 hotels and all 5 Pontins sites, a total of some 5000 employees. In that capacity he has responded to the full range of employment claims.
His advocacy skills are particularly valued by his clients, as is his friendly manner with witnesses. He has given a number of talks to HR staff and others about the Tribunal process and giving evidence. These talks have proved very helpful in reassuring staff, almost all of whom dread the prospect of giving evidence and being cross-examined.
Meeting the barrister in advance and discussing the case does not just allay fears about giving evidence but can also assist staff in how best to approach investigatory and disciplinary hearings, the drafting of resulting letters to staff and the drafting of statements for the Tribunal.
Where convenient to the client, telephone or video conferences can be arranged. Robert prefers to work on a fixed fee basis which he considers an advantage to his clients, whether claimant or respondent, in knowing exactly what their cost is going to be.
Robert is qualified to accept instructions directly from members of the public.
