Intellectual Property, Defamation and Privacy CV

Rachel has a keen interest in intellectual property, defamation and privacy work and is currently developing her practice in these areas. Prior to coming to the Bar, Rachel worked at the Information Commissioner’s Office, where she gained hands-on experience of data protection and regulatory compliance. Rachel brings this wider experience and knowledge to her advisory and court work. Rachel’s advice in the early stages of litigation enable quick resolutions for her clients.

Recent cases Rachel has acted in include:

  • Provided advice and drafted particulars of claim in a defamation matter concerning allegations of serious criminal offences published on social media.
  • Succeeded in a strike out/summary judgment application in a defamation claim brought by a former employee.
  • Provided advice on the requirement to comply with a Subject Access Request in light of ongoing litigation and disclosure obligations.
  • Drafted a defence to a harassment claim concerning automated debt recovery messages.
  • Succeeded in striking out a harassment claim brought against an internet service provider.
  • Provided advice regarding a copyright infringement claim.
  • Obtained a favourable outcome for a client subject to trademark infringement proceedings in the High Court.
  • Successfully resolved threatened proceedings in the Company Names Tribunal.
  • Provided advice in a potential claim for passing off, which involved cross-border issues.
  • Provided advice in respect of threatened trade mark infringement proceedings and steps required to protect the client’s branding.
