Practice Overview
Julius began his commercial pupillage in March 2024. He is under the supervision of Stephen Connolly. Julius intends to pursue a broad commercial chancery practice across chambers’ areas including insolvency, company, commercial, probate, and property law.
Julius has gained a strong reputation among clients during his second six, many of whom have already re-instructed him to appear and advise on a diverse range of matters beyond his level of call. He has been frequently instructed in both High Court and County Court matters and has achieved favourable outcomes, including:
- Successfully representing clients in small claims hearings.
- Securing favourable outcomes on a wide range of possession matters.
- Successfully making a range of corporate insolvency applications in the High Court, including securing (and resisting) numerous compulsory winding-up orders, obtaining an order for delivery up of documents, and obtaining an order (as drafted) for office-holder’s remuneration.
- Successfully making and resisting interlocutory applications, such as strike-out applications and applications to set aside judgment.
- Being re-instructed for a scheduled fast-track trial in 2025 after successfully obtaining an order disapplying the Claimant’s Part 8 claim and securing permission to pursue a counterclaim for breach of contract and/or negligence under Part 7.
- Obtaining, in part, costs on an indemnity basis for an executor of an estate in a contentious probate matter in the High Court.
- Appearing in a number of directions hearings for fast-track trials.
Julius also has experience drafting skeleton arguments, opinions, particulars of claim, defences, and orders on a wide range of complex insolvency, commercial, probate and property matters.
During his first six, Julius has been involved in numerous High Court and County Court matters including but not limited to:
- Drafting a Scott Schedule for a 2-day hearing concerning a US$27 million freezing injunction in proceedings issued by way of an unfair prejudice petition under section 994 of the Companies Act 2006.
- Assisting a King’s Counsel by drafting a skeleton argument in a security for costs application in a £2 million breach of contract claim, which is counterclaimed at £3 million.
- Assisting counsel in a £1 million 7-day breach of contract trial.
- Assisting counsel in a 4-day contentious probate trial (fraudulent calumny, undue influence, and lack of knowledge).
- Observing counsel (for the landlord) in a 2-day multi-track and 1-day fast-track possession hearing, dealing with defences under the Equality Act 2010 and ECHR.
- Observing a range of hearings closer to Julius’ level of call, including winding-up petitions, insolvency applications, possession hearings, fast track trials, small claims hearings, directions hearings, and CCMCs.
Before coming to the Bar, Julius was a Paralegal at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer based in London, working on a high-profile litigation in the pre-action disclosure for a client who defended a multi-jurisdictional product group action, which has now settled for £193 million.
Immediately prior to pupillage, Julius worked as a Senior Paralegal for Overdales Solicitors, where he drafted witness statements, pleadings, and successfully represented one of Europe’s largest credit management companies in small claims hearings and interlocutory applications.
Julius is a native German speaker and has experience advising clients (orally and in writing) in German.
