Practice Overview
Hayley commenced a criminal pupillage under the supervision of Chloe Fordham in June 2024 and began taking instructions in December 2024.
As part of her first six, Hayley has observed and assisted on a variety of criminal work by accompanying both Ms Fordham and other Counsel in chambers. Her work includes preparing research documents for counsel, drafting various documents for trial and sentence and taking comprehensive and thorough noting briefs. She has also shadowed experienced counsel on specialist RASSO matters, organised crime group offences, a GMC hearing and youth court work.
Hayley has taken part in further activity during her pupillage, including speaking at training and pupillage events, and working with sixth form students for a mock trial event.
On commencing pupillage, Hayley left a 10-year career in Classical Arts after initially training as a classical pianist. She maintained a portfolio of work, on and off the concert platform, which included experience working with vulnerable individuals, children and individuals with limited English language skills.
She worked with organisations such as the BBC, Hallé Orchestra, Opera North and The Royal Ballet School, whilst completing her legal studies. In that time she gained accolades for her advocacy skills through scholarships and prizes, whilst taking opportunities to shadow counsel and judges on the Northern Circuit. She hopes to bring transferrable skills and experiences to the Bar.
