Practice Overview

Beth is an experienced advocate building a commercial practice.

Beth has appeared in the Applications List in both Manchester and Leeds; successfully applied to set aside default judgments; successfully acted for mortgagees resisting applications to stay/ suspend warrants for possession, and appeared in the winding up petitions list on several occasions. She has been instructed in a multi-track costs and case management conferences, and has attended directions hearings in mercantile and chancery matters. She has also advised, drafted pleadings, and attended hearings in various contractual disputes.

Beth advises in relation to both personal and corporate insolvency matters. She has advised in relation to the implications of bankruptcy on the extent of the equitable interests in jointly owned property, and advised in relation to directors’ duties and transactions at an undervalue. She has also successfully acted for creditors in disputed bankruptcy petitions.

She has also appeared on behalf of mortgagees and landlords in possession proceedings, and applications to set aside orders for possession.

In her previous role (at the employed Bar), Beth’s advisory work included inheritance tax issues; she is interested in building her practice in relation to contentious probate and inheritance matters.

Beth recently returned to the self-employed Bar, having worked as an advisory lawyer for HMRC and for the Government Legal Department. Beth has also previously undertaken work as a freelance law tutor on the Bar Training Course and the Postgraduate Diploma in Law. Prior to pupillage, Beth worked as a paralegal at the Information Commissioner’s Office.
