Pankaj Madan appointed as President-Elect of Royal Society of Medicine’s Pain Section Council

Pankaj Madan from Exchange Chambers has been appointed as President-Elect of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Pain Section Council.

Pankaj will take over as President of the Pain Section Council in 2026 when Dr Ashish Shetty completes his term in office.  It is believed to be the first time a lawyer has been appointed to such a position in the Royal Society of Medicine’s long history.

The Royal Society of Medicine is one of the UK’s leading providers of continuing learning for healthcare professionals with a global network of 20,000 members.

A registered charity and membership organisation, it delivers multidisciplinary, specialist and general education, as well as professional development, drawing on the support of leading experts in over 50 specialist areas of medicine.

The Pain Section’s purpose is to advance the understanding of the mechanisms and treatment of pain in all of its presentations and clinical settings and to provide educational activities that cover a wide range of medical and non-medical disciplines, exploring the impact of pain and delivering high-quality learning opportunities.

Commenting on his appointment, Pankaj Madan said:

Called to the Bar in 1997 and with over two and a half decades at the forefront of personal injury law, Pankaj’s career is marked by a deep commitment to catastrophic injury cases. He specialises in severe and catastrophic injury cases, some with a potential value of over £20m. Most involve brain injury in particular. His practice is rooted in a profound understanding of the intricacies of brain injuries, severe pain, FND and amputation cases, ensuring meticulous representation for the side he is instructed for. His role extends beyond the courtroom as a writer and lecturer, contributing to the body of knowledge with recent publications such as “A Practical Guide to Catastrophic Brain Injury Claims” published in June 2024. He also sits as a Deputy District Judge.

Pankaj’s full-time legal practice will continue throughout his time as President-Elect and President of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Pain Section Council.
