Olly Jarvis secures acquittal in harrowing death by careless driving trial at Leeds Crown Court

Olly Jarvis from Exchange Chambers has secured an acquittal for his client in a harrowing careless driving trial at Leeds Crown Court.

The three-year long criminal proceedings ended dramatically today with a not guilty verdict from the jury.

It was alleged that the defendant, a friend and carer for her disabled passenger was criminally responsible for his tragic death because the VW Transporter she was driving, collided with the back of an HGV on the M62 resulting in his fatal injuries. Both vehicles had been forced to brake in response to another lorry shedding its load further up the carriageway. The case raised complex issues of causation and the standard expected of a competent and careful driver.
