Nicholas Walker appointed as Area Coroner for Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton

July 23, 2024

Exchange Chambers would like to congratulate Nicholas Walker on his appointment as Area Coroner for Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Nicholas was called to the Bar in 1998 and joined Exchange Chambers in 2005.

Originally a specialist criminal practitioner, Nicholas has built a hugely impressive Professional Discipline practice, in demand across the country for his hard-working and common-sense approach and persuasive advocacy.

In recent years he has defended police officers in some of the longest-running and most complex cases in police misconduct, including death in custody and police-related inquest cases. He has also defended other professionals, often in healthcare settings, and for years presented technically complex cases on behalf of the General Medical Council.

Nicholas takes on his new role with effect from October 2024.

“Everyone at Exchange wishes Nick continued success in his new role,” said Jonathan I’Anson, Chief Executive at Exchange Chambers.

“Nick has contributed so much to Chambers over the years.  As well as building an outstanding practice he was worked selflessly on a wide-range of Chambers initiatives.  He leaves with our thanks and best wishes.”

Said Nicholas Walker: “Much as I am looking forward to my new role, I will miss everyone at Exchange.   I have been fortunate to appear in some interesting and high-profile cases over the years, but it is the people I will miss:  the staff have been fantastic, my instructing solicitors have been a pleasure and I have worked with some of the most talented and able advocates in the country.”
