Marion Weir joins Exchange Chambers
April 7, 2025
Exchange Chambers has strengthened its criminal team in Carlisle with the arrival of Marion Weir as a new member.
Marion, who was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2001, has extensive experience in both defence and prosecution work, having worked at senior levels within the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and private practice.
During her time at the CPS, Marion was District Crown Prosecutor for West Cumbria, leading a team that went on to be awarded a national accolade for their performance. She later moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne where she took on the same District Crown Prosecutor role, leading a team of advocates responsible for the delivery of criminal prosecutions.
The draw of advocacy brought Marion back to Cumbria in 2011 taking up the position of criminal defence barrister at Brockbanks Solicitors. In addition to her Crown Court work, Marion has successfully appeared at the Court of Appeal.
At Exchange Chambers, Marion will specialise in prosecution and defence work in Carlisle and the surrounding area.
Commenting on her decision to join Exchange Chambers, Marion Weir said:
“I am delighted to join the criminal team at Exchange.
“Regarded as one of the leading criminal sets in the country, Exchange has an outstanding reputation in Carlisle, with its members regularly instructed in the region’s leading cases.
“I am looking forward to developing my practice supported by Exchange’s exceptional clerking team.”
Said Jonathan I’Anson, Chief Executive at Exchange Chambers:
“Marion is an experienced criminal advocate with an excellent reputation. Her arrival further strengthens our team and underlines our long-standing commitment to delivering high quality criminal advocacy in Carlisle and the surrounding area.”
