Imran Shafi KC secures murder and manslaughter acquittal for his client

Imran Shafi KC from Exchange Chambers has secured an acquittal for his client on murder and manslaughter charges.

The defendant in Operation Cantus admitted stabbing the deceased twice in self-defence.  Following a two-week trial and forensic cross examination of a number of prosecution witnesses, the jury accepted the defendant’s account and found him not guilty of murder.

The jury were unable to reach a verdict on the manslaughter charge and the defendant faced a retrial.  At the retrial (in which Imran Shafi KC led Dan White of Citadel Chambers), the jury again failed to reach a verdict.  The crown, having considered the matter, offered no further evidence so the defendant has been cleared of all charges.
