Bill Braithwaite QC continues Chambers’ run of high value personal injury settlements
January 29, 2018
Bill Braithwaite QC has settled a severe brain injury claim for a lump sum of £13.5 million. The claimant, who requires 24-hour care, was seriously injured in a car crash in 2014. Chris Gutteridge from Exchange Chambers acted as junior on the case.
It is the second claim in excess of £13 million Bill Braithwaite QC has settled in as many months. He also acted for a 21-year woman who suffered a severe spinal injury in a road traffic accident in February 2015. She was rendered tetraplegic and will remain heavily dependent on others for the rest of her life. The claim settled at a Joint Settlement Meeting for £13.25 million. Chris Barnes from Exchange Chambers acted junior on this case.
The cases continue a run of high value settlements for Exchange Chambers’ claimant personal injury team. In November last year, barristers from Chambers secured over £50 million for clients with life-changing injuries – the team’s best ever performance and highest monthly total.
Settlements included £14 million for a 26-year old tetraplegic with traumatic brain injury (Will Waldron QC and Mark Mulrooney) and £11 million for a 24-year old with severe brain injury (Gerard Martin QC). There were also numerous awards of between £1 and £5 million.
