Exchange’s “interesting and engaging” property seminars praised by solicitors

April 17, 2025

Solicitors from law firms throughout the country attended Exchange Chambers’ annual property seminars in Manchester and Leeds recently.

The CPD accredited events attracted delegates from national, regional and niche firms – and generated positive feedback across the board.

Speakers from Exchange, who were praised for their “interesting and engaging” presentations, included Paul Lakin and Penny Emmott (a practical guide to beneficial ownership), Lisa Feng (what happens when a co-owner becomes bankrupt), Andrew Williams (relief from forfeiture), Brynmor Adams and Tanita Cross (the law of boundaries), Rachel Coyle (village greens), Graham Sellers (to what extent can a prescriptive easement claim be scuppered by signage and/or a “cease and desist” letter) and Eleanor d’Arcy (laches, limitation and the law of private nuisance). There was also a panel discussion on the procedural considerations for property litigators while Lawrence McDonald, head of Exchange’s property team, ran a quiz style session highlighting recent developments in property law and reinforcing some older points of principle.

Commenting on the seminars, Lawrence McDonald said:

“It was a real pleasure to welcome so many clients and new contacts to our property seminars in Manchester and Leeds.

“In person events remain special and I would like to thank all the delegates, speakers and organisers. We have already started planning next year’s programme!” Exchange Chambers’ specialist property team is building on strong foundations after a highly successful 2024.

Following recent expansion, the team is now one of the largest in the North of England and has real strength in depth across all aspects of commercial, residential, and agricultural property. Members are regularly involved in significantly complex matters and reported cases.

Ranked as a leading set for Real Estate Litigation by The Legal 500 and Chambers UK, the team comprises silks and juniors at all levels of call.

The set’s proactive approach to client care also sets it apart with The Legal 500 saying Exchange’s “can-do approach runs right through the organisation”.

Members of Exchange’s property team have appeared at all levels of the Courts and Tribunals system. Members regularly appear in specialist jurisdictions including the Business and Property Court, the Residential Property, Agricultural and Land Registration Divisions of the First-tier Tribunal Property Chamber and the Lands Chamber of the Upper Tribunal. Members can offer specialist skill in drafting and advisory work and all members have extensive advocacy experience.

In terms of appointments, seventeen barristers from Exchange form part of the Attorney General’s panel of counsel in specialist areas including property and property related advice and litigation for the Crown.

Exchange is a multi-disciplinary Chambers. Members of the Property Team also have expertise in related specialisms such as professional negligence, insolvency, construction, wills and probate, tax, social housing, telecommunications, planning and rating and are comfortable working with other members of Exchange with different specialisms.
