October 8, 2024

Exchange Chambers has been shortlisted for Barristers’ Chambers of the Year and Outstanding Case of the Year at the Personal Injury Awards 2024.

In securing its place on the shortlist for Barristers’ Chambers of the Year, Exchange has demonstrated how its members have secured successful outcomes for clients, promoted and developed ADR solutions, championed client care and engagement and made a positive difference in the wider community.

Hadley v Przybylo [2024] EWCA Civ 250 – a much-anticipated judgment on the recoverability of costs in attending MDT meetings – has secured Exchange Chambers’ place on the shortlist for Outstanding Case of the Year.

Chris Barnes KC and Matthew Stockwell, instructed by Simon Roberts and Elen Roberts from Gamlins Solicitors, acted for the claimant in the case.

Expressing their delight at Hadley v Przybylo making the shortlist, Simon Roberts and Elen Roberts said:

“This was a significant ruling for the personal injury and clinical negligence profession and it is hugely important that the legal team and their efforts have been recognised.”

Explaining the importance of the judgment, Chris Barnes KC said:

“The point determined was one of real significance to the manner in which catastrophic injury claims are handled – specifically whether a claimant’s solicitor can recover the costs of attending meetings connected with the claimant’s rehabilitation, whether with the case manager or financial deputy.”

Commenting on the awards shortlist, Jonathan I’Anson, Chief Executive at Exchange Chambers said:

“We are delighted to be shortlisted in two categories at the Personal Injury Awards 2024.  Congratulations to Chambers’ personal injury team and our instructing solicitors.”
