David Toal secures acquittal in rape trial

David Toal from Exchange Chambers has secured an acquittal for his client in a rape trial at Preston Crown Court.
After meeting a women in a bar in Blackpool, the defendant was accused of rape after they returned to his hotel room.
The woman left the hotel before being found by a passer-by a short time later lay on the pavement unconscious. From information given by her to the police, the hotel was located and CCTV showing her leaving the hotel quickly and apparently upset with her shoes still in her hands was seized by police.
The defendant was arrested and maintained that what had occurred sexually between them was fully consensual.
After a 6 day trial at Preston Crown Court the jury took less than hour to find him Not Guilty.
