November 14, 2017
David Birrell has chaired his first disciplinary hearing for England Boxing. The case involved serious allegations that a boxer pursued an inappropriate relationship with a child using social media. David and the other panel members were required to consider digital evidence and Child Protection policies.
David was appointed a Legally Qualified Chair by England Boxing earlier this year in recognition of his expertise in Professional Discipline (please see his Healthcare – Presenting for GMC CV) and Sports Law. As to the latter, David was recently instructed by Sports Resolutions to advise a professional footballer in relation to a doping infringement.
David has a busy practice with specialisms in serious crime (particularly fraud, drugs conspiracies and sexual offences), professional discipline and local government work. He is a talented and persuasive advocate. He has built a reputation for consistently securing good results. He has been involved in a number of high profile cases which have attracted both local and national media coverage. He is frequently instructed, both for the Crown and the Defence.
He is a key and experienced member of the criminal team at Exchange Chambers.
