Caroline Abraham secures unanimous guilty verdicts in domestic violence trial

Caroline Abraham from Exchange Chambers has secured convictions for s18 assault (causing grievous bodily harm with intent), non-fatal strangulation and breach of a restraining order after prosecuting a domestic violence case at Leeds Crown Court.
The victim in the case was the defendant’s ex-partner who was pregnant at the time of the offences. The defendant had returned home from work and initially strangled her until she was unconscious. Thereafter he inflicted a sustained attack on the woman giving rise to multiple fractures and bruising to her face resulting in surgery to repair her injuries.
The jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all three counts. Sentencing will take place at the beginning of October.
