Attempted murder prosecution for Christopher Tehrani QC
March 21, 2016
Christopher Tehrani QC from Exchange Chambers has prosecuted an attempted murder case in which a woman threw her young child head first on the ground, causing serious injuries.
Kim Clark, 34, had denied attempted murder and offered a guilty plea to causing the child grievous bodily harm with intent, but Christopher Tehrani QC said the prosecution intended to proceed to trial on the more serious charge.
She then changed her plea after her QC said she did not wish to have a trial.
The child suffered serious head injuries including skull fractures and permanent brain damage after the attack.
Maidstone Crown Court heard before carrying out the shocking act she told her partner: “I am sorry.” Asked for what, she replied: “For what I am about to do.”
Clark was jailed for 12 years at the court, but will be detained in hospital in Maidstone under the Mental Health Act and only sent to prison if she is considered well enough before the sentence expires.
She denied attempting to wound her partner David Hamer with intent to do grievous bodily harm after arming herself with a knife and the charge was left on file.
