Andrew Jebb secures acquittal for lead defendant after longest ever trial at Newcastle Crown Court

Andrew Jebb from Exchange Chambers, led by Paul Bogan KC from 23 Essex Street Chambers and instructed by Anthony Smith at Richardson Lissack, has secured an acquittal for his client after the longest ever trial at Newcastle Crown Court.
The 154-day trial began with 9 defendants accused of a pension liberation fraud after an investigation by the North-East Regional Organised Crime Unit.
The prosecution alleged that 68 investors were fraudulently persuaded to transfer their existing pensions to a new scheme set up and run by the defendants. In total, it was alleged that over £5.5m transferred into the new scheme had become effectively worthless.
Andrew Jebb and Paul Bogan KC represented the lead defendant who, the prosecution alleged, was at the heart of the conspiracy.
The trial involved complex legal and factual issues. After deliberating for 20 days, the jury acquitted Andrew’s client – and all the defendants – of conspiracy to defraud.
